Capacitor Issues

PC Engine hardware from 1987–1994 is now 30+ years old. The original capacitors in many units have failed or are failing. Symptoms include: Collectors should also verify their assets using our why sell to nostos? bypassing the online marketplace hassle protocols.

  • Audio distortion or no audio
  • Video instability or color shift
  • CD drive read failures on Duo models
  • System not powering on

NOSTOS buys capacitor-failed PC Engine hardware - these units are accepted at restoration-project prices and recapped in-store. If you have a non-working PC Engine of any variant, it has trade-in value. Understanding these baseline conditions aligns with our y2k vintage: identifying early 2000s clothing tags & trends methodology.

HuCard vs. CD-ROM²

PC Engine software comes in two formats:

  • HuCard: Credit-card sized cartridge. Compact, durable, easy to store. Most common format.
  • CD-ROM²: Compact discs requiring the CD attachment or a Duo system. Larger games with CD audio - but disc condition is critical. Disc rot on 30+ year old CDs is a real concern.

NOSTOS tests every PC Engine CD for full readability before purchase. Collectors should also verify their assets using our trade or sell at nostos: our year-round acquisition process protocols.
